From the Slopes of Kamchatka to the Sun-Drenched Streets of Morocco, Olga Volga’s Artistic Odyssey Embraces the Power of Nature, Travel, and Color

Interviewer: Olga, could you please tell us about your journey into the world of art? What influenced your development as an artist, and how did your creative career begin?

Olga Volga: It can be said that I started painting from a very young age; it has always been my favorite pastime. Drawing truly captivated me. Moreover, I was surrounded by art at home, as my grandfather was an artist who created his paintings in the style of realism, often painting portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. I loved watching the painting process, and what fascinated me the most was the color of the paints and the constant search for new shades. At an older age, when I received a professional art education, I could be both highly praised or criticized for constantly experimenting with color and sometimes going beyond the conventional boundaries of the rules.

Interviewer: Did you rely on your feelings in the search for colors or on certain established principles?

Olga Volga: I relied solely on my personal sensations and feelings. The thing is, I believe that everything in this world is energy; we can definitely feel it and often see it in the form of certain colors. It’s a complex process, but scientists will probably be able to explain it and link it to certain laws of physics. Artists, being intermediaries, merely depict what they feel. You could say that color comes to me; it’s an irrational process where I see and transmit on canvas the shades, tones, and colors, regardless of any laws.

Interviewer: Could you tell us, where does inspiration come from?

Olga Volga: Every day carries a lot of information and energy. Any event in the world leaves its mark and then accumulates in the field of our world. Therefore, the colors and the palette in a painting can change drastically every day or even several times a day. Hence the multi-layered color strokes in my paintings. And certainly, my state of mind influences my work as well. I create my paintings only when I am in a state of complete harmony and fulfillment. I tune in and get inspiration from interacting with loved ones, nature, and learning something new every day. I also really like to travel.

Interviewer: What interesting places have you visited and what left the most impression on you?

Olga Volga: In my early childhood, I lived in Kamchatka, on the slope of an extinct volcano. There one can especially feel the undeniable power of nature, the might of the volcano, and in such a place, you can always find answers to all your questions. Later, I traveled a lot in Europe and Latin America; my trip to Chile had a significant impact on me, where I met amazing people and immersed myself in the study of the spiritual laws of life. And some of the brightest colors I saw were in Morocco!

Interviewer: Please tell us more about Morocco, as our issue is directly related to this country.

Olga Volga: In Morocco, the air is saturated with the aromas of spices and blooming gardens. Such an amount of sun makes everything around shimmer with different colors. Traditional bright motifs make you think about the history of that land, about nature itself and its interaction with humans. I still remember the scent of hot flatbreads and the bazaar. Through rich flavors, you can also feel the culture; it’s a kind of DNA code, the cultural code of this beautiful country and land. All this is very inspiring and makes you want to create, to share the joy and energy of colors through your paintings.

Interviewer: Do you have a special painting technique? Could you describe it?

Olga Volga: When I feel the color, I immediately take a brush and try to capture this mood with paints. It’s always fascinating how the energy will play out during the process, into which lines, and which new tones the colors will transition. It’s always a process like a little life. Sometimes I feel that the energy makes me use not a brush but only my fingers, and sometimes a palette knife. I am always accompanied by my favorite music at this moment.

Interviewer: You mentioned various life events; do they help in your creativity?

Olga Volga: I often analyze my life; sometimes trials come, just like everyone else. And it’s interesting to realize that they make me stronger. Every new day I meet as a new life, as a challenge, asking only myself what interesting things this day will bring and what I can do for it. How can I react, how can I express myself. Therefore, you should never be afraid of anything but perceive everything exclusively as an experience, which is undoubtedly necessary for more complex inner work and creativity as well.

Interviewer: What are your plans for the near future?

Olga Volga: I live in Monaco and am registered as an artist here. I am actively developing my activity here. I plan to participate in new exhibitions and projects, and I am always happy to present my works to interested guests. Monaco is an amazing place, so small, but in turn, very energetically powerful. A lot of extraordinary people from all over the world gather here, and considering the tourists and guests coming for bright events, you can feel the entire palette and energy of the world as a whole. I very rarely attend noisy events, but sometimes it’s nice to meet close friends, visit beautiful places, and then seclude myself and start painting and creating, which is always a priority for me, my meditation, and realization.

Interviewer: Thank you! We look forward to your new paintings!
