A Record-Breaking Milestone as ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Earns Swift Her Seventh Album of the Year Nod at the 2025 Grammy Awards
Taylor Swift has achieved yet another milestone in her remarkable music career, making history with her seventh Album of the Year Grammy nomination. With the release of the 2025 Grammy Awards nominations on Friday, Nov. 8, the Recording Academy confirmed that Swift is the first woman ever to receive seven nominations in this prestigious category. Her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), secures her a spot among top contenders and marks her fourth consecutive year as an Album of the Year nominee. This achievement breaks her previous tie with Barbra Streisand, who held six nominations in the category.
The 35-year-old Eras Tour icon now stands alongside some of the industry’s most celebrated talents in the Album of the Year category. This year, Swift’s TTPD is up against fierce competition, including André 3000’s New Blue Sun, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, Charli XCX’s Brat, Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Swift’s six Grammy nominations this year bring her career total to an astounding 58, with 14 Grammy wins already in hand. Her remarkable record in the Album of the Year category includes four previous wins: Fearless (2010), 1989 (2016), Folklore (2021), and Midnights (2024). Swift was also nominated for Red (2014) and Evermore (2022) but did not take home the award for those albums.
Swift’s Other Grammy Nods for 2025
In addition to her Album of the Year nod for TTPD, Swift has garnered nominations across multiple Grammy categories this year. These include Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video for her hit single “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. She’s also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Gracie Abrams for their collaboration “Us” and is once again a contender for Best Pop Vocal Album with The Tortured Poets Department.
This latest album has already made waves since Swift first announced its release during the 2024 Grammy Awards. During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, she captivated fans with a heartfelt message and a surprise reveal, stating, “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans.” She continued with a stunning announcement: “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you. I love you.”
A Historic Year for the Grammys
This Grammy season is shaping up to be historic in more ways than one. Beyoncé has set a record as the most nominated artist in Grammy history, securing 11 nominations this year. Other top nominees include Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven nominations. Rising stars Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan have earned six nominations each, while producer Jack Antonoff and country music’s breakout star Shaboozey received five apiece.
The 67th Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, promising a night of groundbreaking achievements and memorable performances. Fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see if Swift will make history once more by taking home her fifth Album of the Year award—a feat that would solidify her legacy even further in the annals of music history.
